There's something to be said about the changing of seasons. One of the primary reasons I hauled myself all the way out to New Mexico from Florida was to get to watch the seasons change (not to mention to escape the endless humidity). There are signs all over town. You feel a chill in the mid afternoon breeze. People are digging out their scarves and shawls as evening layers. Your favorite downtown boutique's window display features mannequins in soft layers of cashmere and great woolen hats.
Fall is one of our favorite seasons here at Wear Abouts. It's hard not to love all of the options. Suddenly, the word 'layering' is no longer synonymous with 'sweating'. We just got in a second order of our awesomely soft rayon plaid flannel tops from Rails. The first shipment went out the door so quickly it was unbelievable. I mean, I bought one. And truthfully, it's my favorite piece I've gotten so far this season. I've already thrown it on over a dress on a night out downtown, and found myself reaching for it early this morning while I was enjoying a cup of tea on the front porch of my new studio in La Cienega. It's like wrapping yourself in an old familiar friend, a very good way to start the morning.
Now, I know it's still pretty hot during the day in Santa Fe, I was at a pool party just last week, but it's pretty hard not to smile at all the options that fall is bringing into the store. My new crush? All of our beautiful wool hats from Christy's of London. There are two I already have my eye on in the store. One's a beautiful taupe fedora with leather detailing. I put it on and feel much like Indiana Jones, just a bit more refined, but equally as adventurous. It's so fun how a simple accessory can change your mood. The other hat that's calling my name is a large, soft brimmed wool number in a dark cranberry color. It'd be the perfect complement to a dreamy night on the town with a mysterious stranger. Just enough brim to make a lady look a bit more mysterious too, and a great color to play off of all the great purple-toned lipsticks that are so popular when the leaves start changing colors.
Stop by sometime and look around at our ever-changing selection of seasonal goodies... put on a hat or scarf and start your own Autumn adventure :)

Tangled Up
Do you ever just feel all tangled up? Someone told me a while back that July was the Month of Transitions according to the Shamanic calendar. I'm not really sure if this is true, but boy did it feel like it, especially here, at your favorite downtown clothing store. Upon Paige's departure on her Alaskan adventure, we decided it was high time for a new computer system. Sounds like a great idea, right? Now keep in mind, half way through July is the beginning of our busiest season of the year, capped off by Indian Market halfway through August. We knew business would be bustling with the the tourists in town, and we needed to get the computers in and ready to go as soon as possible. Oh, if only it were so.
The system itself wasn't an issue. The shiny, new, fast, wonderful Asus towers were installed in a snap, and files were transferred easy peasy. Oh no, the difficult part came with troubleshooting the updated version of our POS and accounting software. Hours and hours on the phone with a sweet yet clueless gentleman in New Delhi. We actually had a few days where we were running credit cards Ye Olde Fashioned Way (does anyone else miss the smell of carbon paper?). We were all a mess. The internet kept cutting out. The POS system was glitchy. It's a wonder any of us still have a single hair on our heads. But we pulled together, as great teams always do, and we worked it out.
We finally reached a Tech Support person who spoke fluent English, Mark you were a Godsend, and got all the bugs in the system worked out. We uploaded, downloaded, reconfigured, defragmented, reconnected, etc. etc. etc. and now things are back to normal, which is where we all like them.
Indian Market was a blast, with the few weeks leading up to it gaining momentum steadily and we haven't really slowed down since. And now that everything's just the way it should be (not to mention all the awesome new fall must-haves we've been receiving daily), we aren't planning on slowing down anytime soon :)

Autumn Transitions...
Yes, believe it or not, it is that time again... Wear Abouts is transitioning for fall, and you should be too! Boy has it been hot during the day in Santa Fe, but after our daily showers (how wonderful, yes?) we can all feel a bit of a nip in the air. It's the perfect time for donning light scarves and sweaters in the evenings. Don't be afraid to put a light long sleeved tee on over your jean and sandal ensemble. Here are some lovely transitional ideas taken from our store.
